Photography Group April 2020 Newsletter Published
This past month has been very hectic with no public meetings being held at our normal Meeting Place. Instead the Club has held on-line, virtual meetings for all its meetings including Management, Movie Makers and the Photography Groups. Thank you all who attended these meetings. It has been good to “see” each other, yet be so far away, in self isolation.
This month’s Photography Group’s Newsletter had our reporters scattered to cover the events from the Presentation Evening with 4 Club Members, the “Coffee & Chat @10”, the Monthly Competition. It’s been a very different world to report on Club activities with technology playing an increasing role.
Here’s a quick last reminder about several very important activities. The Club’s APS Challenge Cup Pre-Selection entry close this Friday, May 1st. This is a Club Entry Event so please do assist by sending your digital images in. In addition, the FCC Topshot closes on May 8th, and is an individual entry. Finally all the May Meetings will continue to be on-line using Zoom. For changes, please consult the Club’s Calendar and review all activities.

Wollongong Library contact details
Sorry everyone, I forgot the contact detils for the librry yesterday. They are below.
The library is collecting photos of our community during CoVid 19 restrictions and we are wondering if you would like to join us by submitting some photos. We are planning to have an exhibition in the library when we are open again and also add images to Illawarra Images.
We are looking for photos of how things have changed eg. Shops, signs as well as creative ways people are functioning in isolation.
If anyone would like to submit photos they can send them to me or send a link to a cloud storage. The photos need to be good resolution about 4 MB or so and by submitting them it is understood they give permission for them to be loaded onto Illawarra Images. Photographers name and place and description need to accompany.

A message from The President
Well, we have achieved a first for the Club, a virtual Club meeting with 37 members with the youngest member to the oldest all online. I must thank the Presenters and all members for their willingness to join in this special event. With the help of Tim Porteous, Geoff Gray and John Devenish who worked in the background for the last 3 weeks, I was so proud to be the President and enjoyed the company of all the members whom I know missed the social aspects of the Camera Club meetings. This we will make up with a coffee and Chat hour in the near future. Copies of the presentations are available to members upon request via WeTransfer .

AIPP Iniative
We have receivedthis information from Matt Palmer from the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP):
The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the photography profession and industry, camera clubs and special interest groups. With all the Government restrictions, as well as the need to protect our and your members, this is a challenging time for all of us to maintain connection and encourage our passion for photography.
AIPP members have taken the initiative to host online Q&A sessions; these are some of Australia’s top photographers. These events are available FREE to members and non-members. The sessions are recorded and will be made available to our members in the resource library.
We currently have scheduled:
Scott Portelli – Experienced underwater and wildlife photographer
Mieke Boynton – Landscape photographer, ex-Olympian, and Australia’s first winner of the Epson International Pano Awards
Alex Cearns OAM – Prolific animal photographer and community builder.
Matt Palmer – Landscape and 2019 Australian Professional Photographer of the Year
Abraham Joffe ACS – Internationally awarded filmmaker and creator of ‘Tales Of Light’
Tony Hewitt – One of the world’s top landscape photographers
We are continually adding to this lineup. To register your members need only visit https://www.aipp.com.au/events and select the sessions they wish to attend. Once again these Q&A events are FREE. The link details for each session are emailed to participants approximately 24 hours before the session.
We also have a directory of Covid-19 resources at http://aippblog.com.au/2020/covid-19-resources/ which is accessible to anyone. This is being regularly updated as information comes to hand.
The AIPP recently introduced a new and inclusive membership category, General Member. We have an introductory offer of $12 per month for the first year. There is a lot to gain and experience through membership including a video library, specimen contracts (for those conducting business or wanting to), business resources, access to the National AIPP Members Facebook Community and opportunities for professional development. More information on General Membership is available at https://www.aipp.com.au/join/new-member-category
I hope these initiatives may be of interest to you and your community and that our free events can help connect our communities around a shared passion for photography.
